ARCHITECTURE DESIGN STUDIO 2 [ARC 2116]- Project 3: Boat House

Learning Outcomes

1. interpret and analyse simple site context
2.interpret and analyse client’s character and needs in relation to the design of a small building
3.design a simple building type that meets user requirements and respect site context that balances both internal (architectural spaces/layout/circulation) and external (aesthetics and forms) design values

The main aim of Project 3a is to identify and analyze the site context for project 3c design exploration. The class were divided into groups and I was in the Belum Forest lakeside group to carry out a site analysis. The data collected on site will then be taken back to the studio for analysis and presented. Each student must then synthesis the data for their own design proposal.

As a group, we visited Belum Rainforest  for site investigation and ‘nature scanning’ to initiate the preliminary conceptual approach of the design. I now understand the importantance for my work to reflect my understanding of how architecture is created by applying the basic design principles and spatial organization skills as I tried to illustrate an understanding of how a building is conceptualize and transformed into reality.

Project 3 extends the understanding of design concept and process. It introduces the notion of architectural space making through the design of a user specific architectural scheme. This project explores the relationship between architectural tectonics, function and space in architecture.

I designed a boat house retreat within the built up space of 150m². The boat house model, site model and architectural drawings such as floor plans, elevations, and sections also included in the presentation board.
