BUILDING SCIENCE 1 [ARC 2413]- PROJECT 1: Human Perception of Comfort Level

Learning Outcomes
  • Identify environmental conditions related to site conditions, climate, etc.
  • Explain the effects of the sun on the thermal performance of buildings
  • Explain the effect of insulation, thermal mass and air movement on thermal performance of
  • buildings.
  • Infer how different building material (K-value, u-value, r-value) has different effect on heat gain or
  • thermal environment in a given space

In this project, as a group, we measured thermal comfort in a living room using the Thermohygrometer (air temperature and humidity level) and to analyse and explain the satisfaction towards the thermal environment in the existing condition of the living room. The project aims to introduce and expose us to understand thermal environment in man-made spaces and the need for structures/spaces to respond to climate and context.
