BUILDING SCIENCE 1 [ARC 2413]- PROJECT 2; Integration with design studio 3

Learning Outcome
  • Estimate heat gain in a space and to provide passive solutions for it.
  • Evaluate control of variables such as heat and ventilation
  • Judge the limits of acceptable or desirable conditions (thermal environment) and recommend design that control the effects of sun on the thermal performance of buildings (shading devices)

In this project, sustainability issues were addressed in design studio 3 Project 2: Genius Loci ; Capturing the Sense of Space and MS1525 were incorporated in the design stage. Two A3 boards were produced with the understanding of thermal comfort within the site and building in context were shown in the integration boards.

Sun and wind analysis were shown with substantial amount of information as studied in
Building Science 1. By using the Ecotect software, Sun-shading topic was covered as photographic compilation with analysis according to the day and time. Overall Heat Transfer Value was covered as calculation based on the equations introduced in class with the usage of building materials with optimal u-value. Basic building design was also incorporated in the design. Thermal comfort was covered as user’s experience within the site.
