BUILDING CONSTRUCTION 2 [ARC 2513]- Project 2: Understanding Forces in Solid Structure and Surface Structure

Learning Outcomes

Identifications of basic structural systems in construction
Compare solid and surface construction systems.
Differentiate solid and surface construction systems in terms of loads and forces acting on structural elements.
Recognize and apply the implications of construction system in design.
Analyse the issues of strength, stiffness and stability of structures including modes of structural systems, forces, stress and strain and laws of static.

In this project 2: Understanding Forces in Solid Structure and Surface Structure,
we proposed a solid construction and identified the types of structural system used in the buildling construction.

The structural system can be identified in terms of function, material, and load distribution. A A3-sized model of the solid construction was produced using MDF board to show the structural system of the building.

Besides, we prepared 1 A4 size booklet to analyze the construction of the model. Brief introduction, construction method, and detailing parts of the building are included to show the construction process.
The forces, structural movement experienced during the construction process is explained using annotated sketches and diagrams.

Last, photographs of the model and the model-making process are also documentated into the A4 booklet.

For individual task, 2D isometric drawing with annotations and specifications was drawn to show detailing of different parts of the building.
